New Delhi: Mayawati, the chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), announced that her party will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections independently without forming any alliances. She clarified that the BSP has not entered into any pre-election partnerships but remains open to post-poll alliances.

Mayawati explained the decision to go solo by citing past experiences where contesting with alliance partners resulted in more losses than gains for her party. According to the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, votes often got transferred to the alliance, leading to unfavorable outcomes.

In previous elections, the BSP had formed alliances with parties like the Samajwadi Party and the Congress in both state and Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, benefiting the alliance partners. However, Mayawati now emphasizes the party’s strategy to contest independently in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Celebrating her 68th birthday on Monday, Mayawati affirmed that she has no intentions of retiring from politics.
